These commentaries are part of a new series of studies that will feature a number of volumes covering all of the New Testament books. There will be reliable expositions of the Bible text, a careful analysis of key words, easy outlines to follow, and helpful material to aid Bible students. The explanations are written from a conservative evangelical Brethren and Anabaptist point of view. The goal is to expound the Bible text accurately, and to produce a readable explanation of God’s truth.

Each volume can be especially useful for pastors, Sunday School teachers, and lay persons. The writers aim for thoroughness, clarity, and loyalty to the Anabaptist/Pietist values. The meaning of the Greek text will be part of the exposition when necessary.

“The Turks are coming!” The cry rang through the market village of Pausram. “The Turks are coming!”

The Kemptens, a Moravian family, search for spiritual security after the Turks kidnap their son Stefan. Sold into slavery, Stefan seeks answers to his perplexities and begins to find them through the Greek Brethren.

This captivating story is built on an often overlooked but significant event in Anabaptist history recorded in the Martyrs Mirror. Through some Moravian captives, the Thessalonican Christians learn about the Anabaptists of Moravia.

Lovers of the Truth is a well-researched, stirring story developed from this historical record. It should inspire readers of all ages to be sincere lovers of the truth.

This book tells the story of the coming of the Mennonites to America and their life and experience in the North American continent. It is a sequel to the book by John Horsch, Mennonites in Europe.

The story of the Mennonites coming to America during the past two hundred fifty years and their settlement in the great land of freedom, progress, and prosperity, both south and north of the Canadian border, is one of the happiest stories out of Mennonite history. For here, the Mennonites found a land where they could have full freedom of conscience, full opportunity to develop the genius of their faith and life, and free privilege for expansion, internal migration, and organization. More than that, for the first time they did not feel the pressure of a surrounding society which was in opposition to their basic principles.

Studying the Book of Luke gives us a new perspective of who Jesus was — and still is. Just as “Jesus himself drew near, and went with them” long ago, He draws near and goes with His people today.

This is an ideal study guide to explore the Gospel of Luke.

The Inspiration and Formation of the Scriptures

What is the Bible? People have died because they followed its teachings. Some have been forced to leave their homes and families because they refused to disobey it. Others have worked and saved for years to lay aside enough money to buy one. Governments have tried to destroy it, yet it remains the most popular book ever printed. Scientists have branded it outdated and foolish, yet it continues to outsell their scientific books. It is one of the world’s oldest books, yet people constantly use it to find answers to today’s problems. Why?

“Thy Word Is Truth” tells the story of the formation of the Bible. It describes its inspiration and the processes that culminated in the translation of the Bible that you own today. Your faith will be deepened as you ponder the miracle of the Bible.

The true stories in this book vividly portray the house church in China and the individuals at its heart. The church — strong, flourishing, and faithful in spite of persecution — is made up of people like you and me. People who struggle with pride, with doubts, with being true to Christ.

As we meet these real people with their real battles, and witness their heartaches and triumphs, may we find our own faith strengthened and refreshed.

Through her window Miriam watched the bright yellow sun begin its climb into the blue dome of sky above Galilee. The quiet sea sparkled like a thousand diamonds. Beyond rose the rolling hills, and farther, the mountains.

This was Miriam’s home in Galilee, and everything was just right until later that day, when Father explained that they might have to leave their home.

“Jehovah will provide,” said Father.

Will He? Can we keep living in Galilee? Miriam wondered. It would take a miracle.

In a story rich with the life and culture on Bible times, you’ll follow Miriam and her family, and learn that God did provide. There was a miracle — but not what they had expected.
