Purpose, Benefits, and Goals

The purpose of this course is to teach personal and business record keeping and financial management that will help you be a good steward of the material blessings God has given. It should also help to prepare you for a life of service in the church, at home, and in business.

Almost any job involves some recordkeeping work: a job such as a clerk, secretary, or accountant consists mostly of keeping records. Sometime you may even have your own business. In the home, groceries must be purchased, bills paid, and investments made. The ability to make wise financial decisions and to manage finances well will be invaluable throughout life. "And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful" (Titus 3:14).

The general goals for this course are as follows:

  1. To instill principles of Christian stewardship related to honesty, hard work, good value, simplicity, giving, and saving.

  2. To teach investing, purchasing, and credit in the framework of a separated, simple lifestyle.

  3. To acquaint students with standard terminology, forms, and methods in keeping personal and business records, for the purpose of managing money wisely.

  4. To provide students with practical skills that will aid them in their usefulness to the Lord and in the workplace.

  5. To teach the importance of accuracy and neatness in all recordkeeping work.

  6. To maintain basic mathematical ability and computation skills.
