Heart & Hearth

Mary June Glick

From the author's introduction:

This cookbook was born out of my own experience of cooking in a foreign country. I remember the disappointment of realizing that I wasn't enjoying my kitchen anymore, and the excitement of accepting my frustrations as a challenge. Today many of those so-called "strange" foods are still our family's favorites!

The title Heart and Hearth comes from the expression that "food is the way to a man's heart," and in the same way food can be the key to acceptance by the women in your village! Learning to cook like they do, asking for their recipes, letting them show you how to do it, will build bridges of friendship. The American way is not the "best" way of doing things, it's only the way we have been used to doing things! Our culture can be a hindrance in learning to live in a different culture! Jesus is a beautiful example of relating to people wherever He meets them. May your kitchen become that place of contact for you!

Written especially for missionary mothers, but includes many simple recipes and tips for everyone.
